Year 3 Skipping

The first competition in May saw all the Year 3 children compete in a Skipping festival at St John Fisher.

The competition was ran by Skipping Schools and allowed all the children to compete in different individual, paired and group skipping skills.

After several weeks of practice in P.E. lessons the children performed excellently holding their own against predominantly Year 4 teams.

When all the points were counted up St Mary's finished in 5th Place.

Congratulations to Owen, Amalie, Robert, Louie, Daisy and Charlie who managed to gain a bronze award in their individual competitions.

Year 4 Tri-Golf

An excited team of 10 Year 4 children took part in the Harrogate School Sports Partnership Tri-Golf competition at Harrogate Golf Club.

The team consisting of 5 boys and 5 Girls worked their way around 8 different skills stations aiming to score as many points as they could through putting and chipping accurately and for distance.

All the children performed excellently and played in a very competitive manner but showed brilliant School Games Values throughout the competition.

After all the scores had been collated St Mary's managed to finish in an impressive 6th place out of 14 teams.

Well done to all the children who competed in the competition.

Year 6 Tag Rugby Final

After a long wait for the competition to be arranged the Year 6 Tag Rugby team finally got a chance to play in the Harrogate Partnership final.

The team started a little slowly coming up short in both their opening fixtures. However they soon began to find their form that had crowned them Knaresborough champions and ran in some impressive victories. In total the team played in 8 matches winning 3, losing 3 and drawing 2.

Overall St Mary's finished 5th in the standings and can be very proud of their efforts after not been involved in Tag Rugby for several months before the final was arranged.

Year 4 & 6 Tennis

The Year 6 teams opened up this years tennis fixtures, taking part in the Knaresborough Schools competition at King James School. The three teams  of four players competed in four different matches gaining as many points as they could to gain victory for their team.

There was some wonderful, fast paced tennis on show with some brilliant rallies between the players.

Congratulations go to the St Mary's A team of David, Henry, Ruby and Victoria who finished in first place and qualify for the Harrogate Finals.

Several days later the Year 4 teams aimed to replicate their older peers in their own Knaresborough Schools competition.

The children started a little cautiously but soon began to grow in confidence and played better and better as the competition went on.

Congratulations to St Mary's A team of Keziah, Sam, Emma and Lilly P who finished runners up and also qualify for the Harrogate Finals.

Well done to all the Year 6 and Year 4 teams who competed, all of whom showed brilliant School Games Values throughout.

Year 2, 4 & 6 Quad Kids Athletics

The final week of the half term saw the Year 2, 4 & 6 Quad Kids athletics teams compete at the Harrogate Partnership competition at St Aidan's School.

All the children in each team had to compete in a distance run, a sprint, a javelin throw and a long jump.

Each team showed great encouragement to each other and the athletes pushed themselves to gain as many points as they could.

After the results were counted up;

Year 2 Team finished in 3rd Place

Year 4 Team finished in 2nd Place

Year 6 Team finished in 2nd Place

Congratulations to all our athletes who took part and for all three teams to finish in the top three positions was an excellent achievement.
