Year 5 & 6 Orienteering
On Tuesday 3rd May children from Year 5 & 6 took part in an Orienteering competition at Rossett High School. The children used their map skills to locate 20 markers in the fastest time possible, hoping to achieve individual and team success.
In the Year 5 competition three teams were entered, one boys team, one girls team and one mixed team competing in the boys event.
With some fantastically quick times, the mixed team of Thomas, David, Zachary, Ruby and Gracie managed to win the Year 5 boys event. With a particularly impressive performance by Thomas who finished in 2nd place from the full field of athletes.
In the Year 6 competition three teams were entered, one boys team and two girls teams.
The Boys team and the Girls A team finished in 4th place overall. Both teams had a stand out performance with Dominic claiming a gold medal after finishing first in the boys event and Therese claiming a silver medal after finishing second in the girls race.
Well done to all the children who competed and good luck in the final.
Year 5 & 6 Triathlon
On Thursday 12th May children from Year 5 & 6 took part in the Harrogate School Sports Partnerships first Triathlon event. The children competed in a team of four, swimming 50m, cycling 800m and running 600m in the fastest time possible. Four teams from St. Mary's took part with the A team of Dominic, Grace, Thomas and Therese finishing in an excellent 6th place out of 30 teams competing. Well done to the other three teams who finished in 16th, 25th and 26th place.
Also congratulations to Seb who was chosen for the Passion School Games Value award.
Quad Kids Athletics
On Tuesday 24th May a team of boys and girls from Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6 went to St. Aidans School to compete in the Harrogate Partnership Quad Kids Athletics competition. The event consists of each child in the team completing a sprint, a distance run, a javelin throw and a long jump. All the children performed brilliantly and really gave their all in each event to try and score as many points as possible for their team.
After all the scores had been added together each of the three St. Mary's teams finished in 4th place - the Year 4's finishing one point off 3rd place.
Well done to all three teams and congratulations to Jack in Year 2 who was chosen for the Determination School Games Value Award.
Year 5 & 6 Mini Tennis
On Thursday 26th May three teams from Year 5 and 6 went to St. John Fisher School to compete in the Harrogate Partnership Mini Tennis competition. With two boys and two girls in a team, they each competed in six singles matches against children from Pannal, Killinghall and other St. Mary's teams . All the children produced some excellent tennis with some brilliant close games, all scoring points for their team.
After all the scores had been added together St. Mary's A Team of Dominic, David, Victoria and Hannah F were awarded First Place! They will now progress to the Harrogate Finals.
Well done to all three teams and congratulations to Therese and Sam who were chosen for School Games Value Awards.
